The San Jose Police Department, Traffic Enforcement Unit, will be conducting a DUI/Driver License Checkpoint on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at an undisclosed location within the city of San Jose, between 9:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. DUI checkpoints are a proven enforcement tool, effective in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol-involved crashes. Research shows that crashes involving alcohol drop by an average of 20 percent when well-publicized checkpoints are conducted often enough.
Officers will be contacting drivers passing through the checkpoint and checking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment. Officers will also check for proper licensing and will strive to delay motorists only momentarily. Drivers caught driving impaired can expect jail, license suspension, and insurance increases, as well as fines, fees, DUI classes, and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.

San Jose Police Department Targets Impaired Drivers With Sobriety/Driver License Checkpoint
The San Jose Police Department, Traffic Enforcement Unit, will be conducting a DUI/Driver License Checkpoint on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at an undisclosed location within the city limits, between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m.
DUI checkpoints are a proven enforcement tool, effective in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol-involved crashes. Research shows that crashes involving alcohol drop by an average of 20 percent when well-publicized checkpoints are conducted often enough.
Officers will be contacting drivers passing through the checkpoint and checking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies, while also yielding considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent. Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public.
"Deaths from drunk and drug-impaired driving are going down in California," said Christopher J. Murphy, Director of the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS). "But that still means that hundreds of our friends, family and co-workers are killed each year, along with tens of thousands who are seriously injured. We must all continue to work together to bring an end to these tragedies. If you see a Drunk Driver, call 9-1-1."
Funding for this checkpoint is provided to the San Jose Police Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, targeting those who still don't heed the message to designate a sober driver.

The San Jose Police Department will conduct a sobriety and driver's license checkpoint in the city of San Jose on Saturday, August 13, 2011, from 9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.
In an effort to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol-related crashes, sobriety checkpoints are conducted to identify offenders and get them off the street, as well as to educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving.
All too often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by impaired drivers. This sobriety checkpoint is an effort to reduce those tragedies. A major component of these checkpoints is to increase awareness of the dangers of impaired driving and to encourage sober designated drivers.
Sobriety checkpoints are a proven and effective method for achieving this goal. By publicizing these enforcement and educational efforts, the San Jose Police Department believes motorists can be deterred from drinking and driving.
Drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs will be subject to a driver's license check as part of the investigation.
Traffic volume- and weather-permitting, all vehicles may be checked and drivers found to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs will be arrested. Our objective is to send a clear message to those who are considering driving a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol and/or drugs:
Drunk Driving, Over the Limit, Under Arrest.
